Processing

All the books in Indian and Foreign languages are processed in their respective language divisions. English language books are processed by the Processing division. 20th edition of Dewey Decimal Classification is used to classify the books. The books are catalogued according to AACR 2 up to the 2nd level. Library of congress subject headings are used to assign the subject headings and Cutter Mark is used to assign the Author Marks foreign authors. Author table prepared and published by the National Library is used to assign the author mark of Indian authors.

Stack
All the foreign language divisions and few Indian languages divisions (Hindi, Kashmiri, Punjabi, Sanskrit, Sindhi, Telugu and Urdu), maintain their own stacks. English works and other Indian language books are stacked separately. Stack division is responsible for the maintenance of this stack. The responsibility of the stack division includes keeping the books in order and tidy, supplying them to the reading room and lending division to provide them to the readers. Minor repairs and binding and re-labelling of books are also done in the stack division.
Stock Verification Division
This Division was established 1971 as par the recommendations of the Review Committee (1968) to verify the entire collection.
